Trying

As a follow up to yesterday's gratuitous post, here are some pictures. I can't tell you how much I appreciate y'alls responses and suggestions. Some of you made me laugh with your stories. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. As far at this vignette, I'm not satisfied yet. May ditch everything and start over. But, thought I'd share what I played with last night.

I have a collection of Brannock foot measuring devices. This one is a recent acquisition. Junior size. cool!

This right here is just plain ole bad. But, I'm trying!

To distract you from the stuff on top, please direct your eyes to the wood shelf. I think it is an old carriage seat. And the brackets are a silver color. I think they might benefit from a painting. Black, maybe?

I have absolutely no idea what happened to my old blog layout. But, this one could drive me crazy. Don't be surprised if things are switched up soon.

And for those of you who left comments on my Belly Wisdom post, I would like to thank you kindly.

This weekend, David is going out of town and I intend to spend Saturday playing with Mayron. We will probably head for Malakoff. Hit Junk Palace and Curious Goods. Maybe stop by LaurieAnna's in Canton. Looks like we'll be in time for a sale! Any other places between Terrell and there that we need to visit?

  1. I have a different problem. People think your displays look like your store but they think mine looks like a museum. I guess that's my tomorrow's blog. Thanks.

  2. Mindy, I like the second from the last arrangement. What about a casual drape of vintage lace or a damask napkin plopped in front? I like the shelf as is but I'm also fond of black. What ever works for you. I love that you posted different arrangements, so fun to compare. Pam

  3. Pam, I wouldn't paint the shelf black. Just the brackets holding it up. I do believe white would be too stark...so, black seems a better choice. Yeah, the one you pointed out would probably be my top choice...maybe the lace or something would help. I'll try. Thanks! ~Mindy

  4. Looking good. I love that you posted different arrangements. It is so fun to see how rearranging can change the feel of a display. How about a piece of vintage lace or a damask napkin plopped casually in front? I like your shelf as is but I am also fond of black. No help here, huh? Have fun with it, Pam

  5. I'm guessing the seat didn't come from a cart, since it doesn't have a back. Perhaps it's from a narrow buckboard buggy or it could be a coachman's seat from a larger carriage. I like it!

  7. I love the fact that the shelf was once something else entirely. Makes the shelf a statement in itself. See you on Friday

  8. OK -- I'm maybe seeing some vintage books & an old pair of binoculars. Everything I do I feel like I'm displaying but we've tried to make the shop look more like rooms rather then a flea mkt. People always complement us on that so it must be working. I'm loving this giveaway thing -- & I sooooo appreciate your thoughtfulness. Thanks, Jan

  9. Do you know what it needs? Something unifying. Something. But I'll be darned what. That shelf is gorgeous, though.

  10. I wouldn't paint the brackets. Look around and bring in some more silver, got any more frameless mirrors, layer those in the back, attach the watch to the bowtie and prop on the rusty dooie in front of the white vase. Needs some lighting reflected in the mirror and maybe be just a bit of scrim under it all to soften. Just suggestions. Debbie

  11. Erin, I thought the Mirror was unifying. Perhaps stacked mirrors, as Debbie suggested.

Debbie, can't wait to play with this. I had to look up scrim, but I'm better now. ha! Thank you!

  12. Mindy, love your wagon seat shelf. And, I love the brackets like they are! I have to laugh bout the price tags. My husband is always complaining that I leave them on, but I might let it go someday and need to know! LOL. Anyway, like your style. blessings, carrell

  13. I was looking at your last two posts, I too struggle with vignettes at home... I can do it no problem at the antiques mall, but I struggle to make it look natural at home!! That's when I resort to my favorite blogs for inspiration!!
Have a great weekend, sounds like a lot of fun!

  15. I so love the foot measuring thingy. My dad was pretty particular when it came to measuring our feet. He had worked in a shoe store in his teens and would take the measuring device away from the salesperson and do it for us instead. Then I would get a new pair of pointy toed Keds ---red were my favorite. I also remember some fine Buster Browns. Thanks for the memory and BTW--the display looks great!

  18. Hi! Mindy, I agree with Frippery and Talking Trash about layering more mirrors and adding some gauzy lace or something around the mirror perhaps or on the shelf. Add a little more white, creams, silver, stay away from the black. Too Halloweeny! I know you'll come up with something evenually, when it hits you you'll be like "OMG that's perfect". You're too cute!!!;) Have a nice Thursday! ~Lisa

  19. Is the foot measuring instrument steel? Looks like it would make a nifty message center when you pair it with some cool magnets. It even has a hole on top for hanging.

  20. Candy, I went straight to the fridge for some magnets. No go. But, great idea!

  21. I am visiting you from Pat's Oooglebloops :) OMGosh, your foot measuring thingy is fantastic! I always loved it when I was a kid and they got those out, I guess they once you 'grow up' you know your size. I think that is fabulous, I will be on a quest to find one one day! Great stuff on your blog :)
