My Christmas Den

Look what got done this weekend. The floor decor is no longer floor decor. David, my wonder boyfriend, came over and helped Saturday and my favorite sister, LucyJane, came over Sunday. Between all of us, decorations found homes and boxes found their way back to the garage. Whew!

Are you aware that you can click on any picture and it will "go big"?
Looking at the big picture, I think I'll remove the mirror from the back/bottom right shelf. It seems distracting.

Did you see the maternity mannequin, top left? I put a blingy necklace on her. LucyJane thought I should drape her like Mary, great with child, for the season. Isn't she funny?

The black and white photo of the lady is my great grandmother. Resting on top of the opened books is a pair of glasses. The glasses are the same ones she is wearing in the picture. Cool, huh? The shoes on the middle shelf are David's mom's. I bet she had no clue I'd use her shoes in a display! Aren't they great?
Here's a big picture of the den without floor decor. Here's the corner of my office. This Christmas tree has small vintage balls all over it that David placed. Notice, hooks would have had the balls hanging too low, so, he removed the wire from each ornament and then, after placing the wire over the tree "branch", he replaced it. Follow? A lot of work. He loves me!

The wreath bears my grandmother's old broaches and earrings. She did like her bling! Ooops! I needed to move the extension cord in this next picture! Oh, well. A little vignette I set up behind my sofa. I'm not sure that my work here is done. But, the idea has started. I'll post more pics as things evolve. But, I think the den may be finished. Whew! Whatcha think?

  2. Mindy, it all looks great. I'd love a better pick of that clock decor on the right of the entertainment center. And there is a wooden cubbie thing on top of the entertainment center. I used to have one just like that. Sold it on Ebay, did I sell it to you????

  8. Margo, email sent. I will try to get a better pic up of the clock art thingy.

Mom, thanks! Yup..she is my great grandmother on Dad's side. As Dad said "she was my mama's mama".

Tn'T, indeed! It should look familiar! I'm thinking it may stay up year round. I sure do like it. GM's teeth are in a dish next to the guest sink. I should put 'em in the glam tree, huh? NOT!

Thanks, everyone! This was a labor of love and I actually loved every minute of creating it. New and different can be good, huh?

  11. I love how personal your displays are. Just lovely.
I gotta go find an aquarium to fill with shiny baubles. Do you think my hubby would mind if I emptied his? Pam

  12. LaurieAnna, the hours are feed store hours, which are great! M-F 8:30-6 and Sat 8:30-5. If you give me a holler, I can meet you any morning you come. I'm not always there, so give me a heads up. I'd love to meet you. Also, I can meet you Sundays (when the store is closed) by appointment.

Pam, I'm not sure that your hubby would mind you emptying the aquarium. But, the life inside might mind a lot! ;)

  13. Everything is B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L, but how do you keep up with dusting? I love your creativity.

  14. FringeGirl, I have found that the best way to keep up with dusting/decorating/cleaning is to host a party every couple months at my house. Be it a game night with friends, cocktails, brunch, whatever. The more I entertain, the neater the house remains. And playing hostess is fun, too! ~Mindy

  15. I'm for you making the pg mannequin into Mary. You could do it "reverently" so no one gets upset. Sorry you're iced in -- seems that ice is covering a wide territory & it's so cold here that I don't even want to get out. Glad you got your floor decor where you want it -- looks great. Jan

  16. Jan, thank you! I am going to cut LucyJane loose on the prego mannequin. We'll see what she comes up with. In every picture I've ever seen of Mary (ha), she had a head...so, I'm not sure how this obstacle will be overcome. If something good comes of your prodding, I shall post a picture. ~Mindy

  17. Mindy - There are just way too many good things to comment on in this room! I love it all! Your displays are fabulous as vignettes but they consist of perfect individual pieces which is wonderful. You guys did a fantastic job! Your home looks so cozy. Kudos!
