Magazine Recommendation (post 198)

For years, I was a subscriber to Country Home Magazine. I had not renewed when the announcement was made for it's retirement. So, I have not been the recipient of whatever magazine took over the subscriptions.

While I do learn a lot from blog reading and perusing, I don't always have a computer with me. There are times when I would enjoy picking up a magazine and thumbing through.

Y'all have seen what I buy, how I decorate, what interests me. Save me some time and tell me: What magazine should I pick up now? What do you like? Why do you like it? Why do you think I'll like it? Influence me!

My 200th post is coming up and if, just based on what you tell me, I choose your recommendation, we are both in for a treat. I will not only order it for me, I will give you 1 year, as well.

So, do tell! I'll choose and announce the day of my 200th post....which will probably be this weekend some time.

I look forward to hearing what y'all enjoy and what you think I will enjoy! I miss Country Home!

Follow up: I am not taking any other mags at this time. If more than one of you "pushes" the same mag with equal passion and I choose that one, I will throw your names in a hat and choose one of you for the 1 year subscription. So, don't be afraid to recommend one that is already mentioned. I'd like to know what you think will best fit me.

Happy Thursday!
~Mindy

  1. I don't know which other ones you get, but I really do enjoy Better Homes and Gardens. I have subscribed to it for more years than i can even recall, and while it isn't a total replacement for Country Home, nor quite as great as Country Living, they frequently have ideas that I love, for crafts, cooking and decorating. I have pulled out MANY pages over the years from BH&G that were features on wonderful homes that have great vintage collections and shabby-style furniture, antiques, and all of the things I love. Hope that helps! I also have found a lot of great articles with the types of things I like. in Family Circle magazine.

  3. I like Midwest Living, and Western Interiors and Design(Okay, maybe I am partial because Jan's cousin in San Francisco does many of the photography of the homes they show). I also like Ladies Home Journal, great tips on ways to make our lives easier, decorating, having fun etc.

  4. I really like Romantic Homes magazine. The staff is young, full of new decorating ideas, they're just a nice group of people. They sometimes borrow props from my store, Country Roads. Last summer they came out and took pictures of my home for the July or August issue. My house is just that, a house filled with stuff I like, similiar to some of the stuff I've seen on your blog. The other reason I feel comfortable with Romantic Homes, is I know they will be here for awhile. I don't renew too many subscriptions these days. Hope you find the magazine you're looking for. Take care, Sue

  7. Hi Mindy! I really do like Romantic Homes. I have stacks of them -- can't bring myself to throw away any old decorating magazines! I am waiting for Romantic Country to come out with new issues. They are the ones that took pictures in my booth at Round Top. Crossing my fingers that something of mine will be included.... Maggie

  12. Hey Mindy, I had left you a comment about buying Victoria mag, but wasn't sure if it went through. I still enjoy reading this one.

  13. Hey Mindy - Well, evidently many of us are in the same boat...sad to see Country Home gone. The only other magazine I really seem to find ideas in is 100 Decorating Ideas (under $100) by Better Homes and Gardens. Romantic Homes is a gorgeous magazine, but as far as getting ideas and directions on how to do things, is 100 Decorating Ideas - it's a good one! Andrea

  14. Oh, and there's 100 Flea Market Ideas too, also put out by BH & G. Not sure if they alternate the two kinds or what the deal is.

  15. I like Do It Yourself and the 100 magazines, 100 decorating ideas under $100. They are only quarterly though, but are put out by Meridith, the same company that published Country Homes.

  16. Hey Mindy,

Saw your comment on the vintage husband blog. Heck ya I bought that sign! What a great sign huh? It said "Closed for The Winter" on the other side. Bought it last Sunday for the shop - it sold already:( Sandy and I didn't have time to enjoy it. O-well that is why we're in this business...lol. Now about the magazines, Romantic Country is a new favorite. Romantic Homes, country living, and Coastal Living are favorites too. Coastal Living has shown the use of weathered and painted furniture, rusted baskets etc. All the things that I love!
    Have a great weekend!

  18. HA! They're all wrong. I swear, they are. Early American Life. For real! Authentic American history with beautiful old homes, antiques, stunning photography and pretty fine recipes time to time. It is real. One of those that you will keep forever and refer to often. You've got to at least look at it. It is not the stuff of fluff.
