Saturday Garage Sale

Let's see. It's Saturday. Garage Sale Saturday!

Ready to peruse? I have glass, plastic, enamelware, advertising goodies, an old ashtray, a wonderful pink powder box with graphics. Come and get it! If there is no interest by Monday, these items will make their way to Primitiques. I've noticed a few folks coming by the store and snatching some garage sale leftovers up. Thanks, y'all!

Click here and start looking. If you want to buy something, or ask me questions, or if you'd like to request measurements or more pictures, or whatever, please email me at PrimitiquesNPoetry@yahoo.com. If you tell me you want something, I will mark it SOLD on the flickr page so that others will know.

The fine print...my mother does my packaging and shipping with USPS. I've never sold to Canada, but, I imagine we can figure that out. Let's keep this to US and Canada buyers. Mom uses Priority Mail shipping, as boxes are provided and it gets the package to you fairly quickly. So, after you have made your selections, Monday I will take them to her house and she will package and figure the shipping. I will then invoice you via Paypal. If you have questions or want more pictures, please inquire.

And in case you missed it, all proceeds from these Saturday Garage Sales will help fund my trip to Round Top/Warrenton at the end of March. There, I will be taking pictures and later posting about all the great stuff, people and fun. So, consider this an investment in good reporting! *wink*

You will want to click on the flickr set to see all the pictures and the prices. But, here is a sneak peak at some of the listed items.

Happy Weekend!

Friday Finds

I don't know where Dad found it, but I like it!

It's a chippy green.

It was once attached to a wall, I guess.

Isn't it great? I'll be dragging it to the store in the next few days. I have no use for it. But, I sure do like it!

After seeing Candy's post on "cigart", I found these glass cigar tubes and couldn't resist grabbing them. I may sell them in my garage sale tomorrow. If you want them, they will be $1 each, plus your shipping. Holler.
And you know I can't quit! Y'all keep giving great suggestions, so I'm still playing around.

Indeed, there will be a garage sale on my blog tomorrow. Check in. I think you might find something you like! Glass bottles, bakelite, old advertising pieces. All old stuff, out of my garage.

Happy Friday!

Here's the Latest

More efforts, due to y'alls wonderful suggestions. Debbie suggested that I try some scrim. First, I looked up the word scrim, and then I knew that I had none. But, I had this ribbon. I realize, from looking at the first pictures (2 posts ago) that I was mixing metal, wood, ceramic, brown, black, blah blah. No wonder it was too much!

It hit me last night that all the things that were on this shelf before Christmas are still in a box in the garage. Perhaps this is part of my issue. I'm not working with tried and true!
The second largest mirror has a yellow tint to it. hmmm. I thought that maybe the rust/metal might look better with the primitive shelf.

After I walked around the house saying "white, cream, silver", as suggested by Lisa, I had lots of things to choose from. And then, I tried brown.

I know. I went a whole different direction. It's coming around. I swear I'll move on soon. Jan suggested old books and binoculars. I think those are boxed up in the pre-Christmas boxes, as well. I so need to quit my real job so that I can play all day!

By the way, note to self: if you upload pictures centered, they will be centered. Holy cow.

Now, onto another project in the making. I saw this on Ki's blog yesterday. Love it! Of course, mine won't be so fancy, and I'm fairly certain that there will be a different twist. But, here's the screen I have to play with.
I know it's plain. But, that leaves it wide open for embellishments, eh?

Are your wheels turning?

Happy Day!

Trying

As a follow up to yesterday's gratuitous post, here are some pictures. I can't tell you how much I appreciate y'alls responses and suggestions. Some of you made me laugh with your stories. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. As far at this vignette, I'm not satisfied yet. May ditch everything and start over. But, thought I'd share what I played with last night.

I have a collection of Brannock foot measuring devices. This one is a recent acquisition. Junior size. cool!

This right here is just plain ole bad. But, I'm trying!

To distract you from the stuff on top, please direct your eyes to the wood shelf. I think it is an old carriage seat. And the brackets are a silver color. I think they might benefit from a painting. Black, maybe?

I have absolutely no idea what happened to my old blog layout. But, this one could drive me crazy. Don't be surprised if things are switched up soon.

And for those of you who left comments on my Belly Wisdom post, I would like to thank you kindly.

This weekend, David is going out of town and I intend to spend Saturday playing with Mayron. We will probably head for Malakoff. Hit Junk Palace and Curious Goods. Maybe stop by LaurieAnna's in Canton. Looks like we'll be in time for a sale! Any other places between Terrell and there that we need to visit?

Gratuitous second post of the day...

A very dear friend, who shall remain anonymous, emailed this to me in response to my post earlier today on Belly Wisdom: "all I can say is, "what were you thinking?".....or smoking?"

I know. It's a leap from my normal post. But, it's a cool piece! Really, it is! And self-acceptance is a lesson we all need to be reminded of.

But, because my junking friends would like to hear about junk, I'll post a second time today, to feed their needs. I took down Christmas (in my home) and put these things up on the shelf. Now, here's my issue. As soon as I was finished, I felt like it was a display for my store.

Do you ever feel that way? I'm not sure why I think this. I don't know what makes this different from other vignettes in my home. But, it feels like a display.

Maybe it's decent. But, I keep looking at it, thinking I need to slap some price tags on everything.

Feedback?

Belly Wisdom

Today, I share with you this droopy boobed wonder. Some years ago, I was looking through one of the many catalogues I seem to get without asking, and I saw this jewel. The price seemed a bit much, so I did a search and found that the artist actually sells her for less.
Look at her toothy grin. Her belly. Her boobs. She's human. And that, my friends, is why I like her.

The artist, Debbie Berrow, gives this card with the sculpture.

Here is the link if you'd like to check her out. Bell Pine Art Farm.

Yes. I know. She's not antique or junk. But, she has a good lesson, and I do believe that she is worth sharing.

Progress

While all you Texas junkers were in Malakoff enjoying the grand opening of Junk Palace, and everyone else was enjoying their weekend, David and I were bonding in Poetry. You might recall that we planned to lay some wood flooring in the dressing area at my house this weekend. Well, a "we" project quickly became a "David" project. I wasn't an unwilling helper. I was merely clueless. I can hammer nails, I can read the small print on the glue bucket and I can lug wood from hither and yon. But, I'm not real helpful when it comes to "how should we do this?" In this picture, David is contemplating the thickness of the boards compared to the height of the baseboards.

It was determined that the baseboards had to come off, so that the wood flooring could be placed correctly.

I kept forgetting to take pictures. But, here is what it's looking like right now. I'm not sure what kind of wood it is. It was a gift from someone who did not know any history of the flooring. The planks are 8" wide, tongue in groove. The wood has been around for awhile, as there are some old newspapers affixed to the back of some of the planks, but no dates seen. It looks pretty sharp laid out, huh?

David earned a big gold star for his patience and skills this weekend. There will be cold beer in the house when he comes back to finish up!

Be sure to check out David's blog. He intends to have a random drawing at a random time in the random near future, maybe. He's an Aggie, ya know. Making up the rules as he goes! *smile* You'll want to follow him and give the man comments. He likes comments as much as we all do.

Happy Week!

Saturday Garage Sale

It's Saturday, and any junker knows what that means....Garage Sales!!!

No need to get dressed or to drive around looking. Grab your coffee and get ready to peruse from home. It's the Saturday Garage Sale at Primitiques 'n Poetry. No baby clothes, teddy bears or tennis shoes here. Maybe there's something for you here, maybe not. I tried to keep things small enough to ship without large expense. I also tried to offer a variety. These things came from my garage. If there is no interest by Monday, they will make their way to Primitiques.

Click here and start looking. If you want to buy something, or ask me questions, or if you'd like to request measurements or more pictures, or whatever, please email me at PrimitiquesNPoetry@yahoo.com. Designer's Challenge

According to my trendsetting designer friends, Mayron and Marcie of Unique Unique Design, acrylic is in. They make it look chic and desirable. Check out the acrylic columns they have by clicking on their name up there. Wow.

So, I found these acrylic boxes the other day and I thought, "How cool would I be if I jumped on the acrylic bandwagon?" (I don't normally care how cool I would be...but, on this occasion, it happened.) It was one of those situations where I couldn't talk myself into them, but I couldn't talk myself out of them, either.

Yes. They are mine now. I succumbed to my own peer pressure. *smile* The first pictured one is divided in three sections. The next two have holes in the tops and side. The wood shavings tell me that these two with holes used to house small animals.

The boxes are heavy. And sure, those strap things need to be cut off. For the life of me, nothing is speaking to me about these. Maybe you can give me some ideas.

Here's the challenge. What would you do with these 3 acrylic boxes? Ditch 'em or decorate 'em and HOW?

If I ever find the person who messed up the alignment on this layout, I will kick their butt, by the way. ugh!

Be sure to check back tomorrow, as I will be hostessing a garage sale on my blog.

Happy Friday!

Productivity

I got busy this morning. Believe it or not, I got the Christmas stuff off the front gates and the nativity taken down. Yea! Then I tackled my desk. In attempting organization, I know that it's important that like things be stored together. Easier to find that way, right? Pens and markers are now housed in mason jars.

Scissors and clothes pins have new homes in aluminum cans. Don't ask why I have so many scissors. But, at least they are all in one place now.
I don't know if I prefer the jars or the cans more. I thought I'd stick with just one, not both. Do you have a preference?

Thanks to Cher's recommendation, reservations have been made for our visit to the spring shows in Round Top/Warrenton. Yea!
I also went into the garage and started finding things for this Saturday's Blog Garage Sale. Be at the ready y'all. I have dug up some good stuff! Any special requests? Wanna hear something cool? All proceeds from my garage sales will be funding my trip to Round Top. Yee Haw! Keep your eyes peeled this Saturday for lots of good bargains.

Happy Day!

Rambling Wednesday

Remember my new goals? Balance, Organization and Discipline. I must admit that breathing through both nostrils has been my goal for the last couple weeks. My need for oxygen trumped all that other hoo haw. I think I'm ready to get back on track. I know I'm feeling better.

Today, as my breathing improves, that inspirational book, The House that Cleans Itself arrived in the mail. Did you know that the author has a blog with hints? Go here to check it out.

I was pulling out of the drive when I checked the mail and saw the package. And then, I saw my gates. Oh, dear. Poinsettias, wreaths, garland and berries. I need to get after that, don't I? And the nativity too, of course.

My computer is funky today. Pictures are aligning right. Text is weird. Huh. A large thanks to all of you who sent kind words/thoughts and prayers to Jan and Tracy (from my last post). And Mom and I enjoyed a wonderful lunch with Theresa yesterday. Thanks for the good company, my friend. For the record, my mojo is so off with this weird alignment/text issue.

Kathie and I are considering going to Round Top/Warrenton for the spring show. We'll stay 2, 3 or 4 days. Any suggestions/recommendations for good, economical lodging? We looked at the Willow Nest, but some lucky folks have already booked it when we'd like to go. We wouldn't mind pitching a tent, but Kathie just said no to public showers. She's such a girly girl! Bring on the suggestions or offers to stay with you free. We're not proud.

Happy Wednesday!

Show Some Love

This is not your normal Award Recipient blog. Read on, my friends.
What a great couple of weeks! I have been so honored to have been recognized by several of you for awards recently. I so much appreciate these nods of approval, as blogging is such an enjoyment to me. I like knowing that someone is reading and "getting" me.

The ladies at Snowman Hill bestowed the Lemonade Award on me. This award is for bloggers who show great attitude and gratitude. A list of responsibilities came with this award and I am ditching them and making up my own rules. HA! Keep reading...

Tracy at A Simple Country Life then bestowed me with the Honest Scrap Award. I was fortunate enough to have received this award last week and here is my homework from that one, including all my honesty.

*smile*

Tracy has a daughter named Molly. Molly has Cystic Fybrosis and is currently in the hospital for what is turning into almost a two weeks stay. If you click here, you can read about the very bad time that Molly and Tracy are having today.

Now, remember I was making up my rules about these awards. It's all about Honest Attitude and Gratitude, right? If you would, please, go to Tracy's blog and leave comments of some kind. They could use the love of some bloggers today.

That is all that I ask. And I thank you, cuz I have seen the love and felt the love. Let's share it. Ok?

More? You ask. Yup. Jan at Summer Sundays posted about Mike, her husband of 42 years. He died suddenly last week. I don't know her, but tears roll down my cheeks at her loss. Will you send her some love/prayers, as well?

Garage Sale Saturday

Couldn't make it out to any garage sales today? Me neither. But, I did go out to my garage, taking my life in my own hands by doing so. It's a scary place, my garage. But, look at what I came out with! Goodies! See anything you like? Nothing is over $20. Wanna shop? Old nautical light fixture (needs rewiring) $5 (SOLD). Old mixer $5. Oil cans $2 each. Green chair part $15. The mirror isn't for sale today.

This wood chalk board is the real thing with an eraser still attached. $20

Yes, this picture should have been turned...but, I wanted you to see the red door push bells (heck, that is what I was told they are). Cool, huh? Yes, they are brass. You'll be able to see which ones do and don't still have clangers in the next picture. $20

The 4 wood mallets together $5. The Duncan Phyfe base in chippy, creamy yellow would make a great plant stand or whatever $15. The thermos with the baby face is just the bomb. It still has the mercury insides. It's $15.

And the yellow metal Kleenex brand box is $7. If you need better pictures, email me and I'll snap away. Line up with your selections, holler at me here: PrimitiquesNPoetry@yahoo.com and let's get your shipping figured out. This was much easier than driving around all morning, wasn't it?

Happy Weekend!
