My Hero

Two years ago today, I met, face to face, the man you often hear me talk about, my boyfriend, David. Yes, I am going to brag about him. I'm going to tell you what a great catch he is. And I might even gush. So, consider yourself warned! Most of you know, David is an avid photographer.

He loves his baby girl, Alissa.

He is a supportive father to Dustin.

He's a mouse catcher. I found evidence of a mouse in my house and the man brought a live trap over. The first night with Cheerios as bait, look what we got!

And then, there was the snake. Saturday, this lovely copperhead showed up on my patio. It was within feet of my cats and chickens. Yes. David is also a snake catcher/relocator.

You better believe that snake picture is his. Didn't I mention that he is a photographer? If you have never perused his flickr account, it would be worth your time. Go here.

He paints.

Organ Lamp

Have you ever heard of an organ lamp? I had not. This was originally a kerosene lamp, but has been updated to electric. The age is probably late 1800's. Amazing piece, if you ask me. I'm on the lookout for a globe, but, it stands alone quite nicely.

As you can imagine, the show is drawing nigh and my time is running short. Forgive the short post.

Tables and more tables

It was a good day for table buying.
Tables 002
And I couldn't pass up a few smalls.
Tables 007
Then, I nabbed this table...
Tables 011
Whew! I'd say it was a decent haul today! See anything you like?

Hoo loves my Daddy?

A few weeks ago as I walked into my folks' garage, I saw this tall, white owl. His size is what drew me to him. There is a special place in the garage that Dad puts stuff for me to check out. And if I like his finds, I can take 'em. This owl was in that special place.

And the more I see him, the more I like him. I do believe I will take the big owl the next time I am there.

Hoo loves my daddy? Well, I do. Thanks Dad!

ps. Yes. I am taking the Corona typewriter, too.

Location, Location, Location

I have been to Zapp Hall a total of 2 times in my entire life. So, don't expect this to be incredibly detailed. But, if you are a visual person, like I am...you will find this very helpful. I hope! First, let me introduce you to Zapp Hall.
Early trip to Warrenton 09Sept 019
Off hwy 237 in Warrenton, you will turn at the Diamond Shamrock station. Here is the map if you need that visual. After turning, you will eventually come to a fork in the road, go right, and follow the directions of the nice parking lot people. You will have to pay a nominal fee to park, but our show is free. So, there ya go.

If you get to where you are looking at Zapp Hall from this position, to the left of Zapp, you will see the big tent. This is luxury shopping right here. Lots of great sellers under one roof. Head in and peruse. You'll be glad you did. Of course, inside Zapp Hall, there are lots of dealers, as well.

Now, see the concrete steps in dead center of Zapp Hall? To the left of those steps you will see Theresa of Garden Antqs Vintage . You gotta stop and shop with Theresa. After you visit T, see that little building past Zapp? That is where you will find The Ms. Carolyn Westbrook. Her front steps are on the left side of the building, as you will see in this picture.
Carolyn's
After drooling over Carolyn's linens, stand on her steps and turn around 180 degrees. You'll see this...
Royer's at Zapp
Royer's cafe. The very best food. I can't say more or my stomach will start growling. Better food than I can explain. This food, you will not find in any other show. A-ma-zing. See those cute mattress springs? Go left of them and here is what you'll see...
Early trip to Warrenton 09Sept 022
That is Royer's Cafe on the right, and Zapp Hall on the left. Are you with me? See that sandy patch where grass won't grow close to the end of the buildings in the middle? That is where our very own Miss Talking Trash and Cat Daddy sell their wares. I think the grass refuses to grow anymore, cuz everyone keeps coming back to shop and visit with Debbie and Danny.

Ok. Now. What I am about to tell you is HOToff the presses.
side of Zapp
Somewhere out here, I, too, will be set up. Me. Here. Between Zapp Hall and Royer's Cafe. This location became finalized today. So, if you have heard otherwise, I am sorry for the confusion. This is where David and I will be. Come see us here. Very exciting!!!

Now, turn around 180 degrees and look past Carolyn's. You will see a really big tent shared by Gina and Alan of Country Garden Antiques and Richard of Alston's Old Home Place. You know you need to bring lots of money and your biggest truck and trailer, right?

Whew! There you have it. These are the people that I have personally met, who will be at Zapp Hall Friday, September 25 through Saturday, October 3, 9am-6pm daily. You really must know that there are lots of other sellers and spaces...I just don't know the people. Heck, the Junk Gypsies are somewhere on the other side of Richard. You'll figure it all out. I just wanted to give you a little visual before you get there.

Did I mention I'll be between Zapp and Royer's? Uh huh. It's true!

If you haven't discovered my "About Warrenton" column on the left, check it out. When I update it, the new things appear on top of the list.

Happy Tuesday!

Not going to Warrenton, you say...

Framing Thoughts
Can't make it to Antique Week in Warrenton/Round Top? You're local, in Texas, and still want some bargains? Well, do I have some news for you. While the cat's away, the mice will play!

You know good and well that when I am in Warrenton, I'll be buying. I need room in the store when I get back for all the new goodies! That big old trailer will be full of new stuff when it comes home. Help a girl out, would ya?

Window Dressing at Winnie & Tulula's

I designed my very first window dressing this weekend at Winnie & Tulula's. Wanna see?

David and I enjoyed the challenge of giving a view from most angles.
2009September12W&TWindow 011
I purchased almost all new merchandise for this black/gold/burlap/straw hat motif. Those great burlap pillows used for backrests are available from The Sweet Pea Collection in Athens.

There are actually 3 window views from the "stage" area. Here are some outside views. Sorry for the glare.

Go Bulldog!

Have you ever been inside of a high school marching band trailer? You know, they have built in cubby holes for the instruments. See?
The Bulldog 010
Those cubbies seem to hold the instrument cases as the band travels hither and yon. You can see the holes from cubby to cubby where some rope runs to help keep instruments from straying.

The aisle is 41" across. That's some pretty good walking room, eh?

This trailer right here has a side door, as well as the end double doors. That can be convenient for the kiddos, huh? This one even has board ramps for rolling the bigger stuff up and in.
The Bulldog 013
Wanna know why I care about this trailer? Why I am going on and on about a marching band trailer with cubby holes? Let me tell you why. David, the man that I love, was looking at Craigslist this morning and he happened to spy this 24' trailer. Now, who, I ask you, has been freaking out about space and weather and open trailers? ME! I have been, if you hadn't noticed.
The Bulldog 001
We met up at the seller's home and BAM! David is now the proud owner of a trailer that we have dubbed The Bulldog. See our mascot? Yee haw!!! (Thank you, honey, for being the supportive man that you are. You never cease to amaze me.)

We may or may not knock some cubbies out for transporting larger pieces of furniture. Not sure yet. I imagine we'll get this show under our belts before we start any deconstruction.

Y'all have a great weekend. We'll be in Athens tomorrow. Maybe we'll see you at Winnie & Tulula's?

Junkin' Thursday

I am still buying. My space at Warrenton is 10' x 20'. We've already taken a 25' camper fairly loaded with stuff. David and I will be taking 2 trucks and 2 trailers in less than 2 weeks (*gasp). I do believe that I have more stuff than I have space in vehicles and on the grounds at Zapp Hall. Maybe I should stop buying for the show? I have been buying more for the front window at Winnie & Tulula's. These things here? Window. Saturday. Setting the window. Athens, Texas.
091009Junk 008 Link
Ignore that toile. I'll cover that with a lil something. Here's more:
091009Junk 009
Now, this amazing chair? Don't look for it in the window at W&T's. I do believe it will make the trip to Warrenton. Maybe...hmmm....I need a bigger trailer!

15 Days???

How is it that I buy Sharpee pens in multiples and I can't find one when I need one?

According to Theresa (and the counter on my very own page), there are 15 days until the opening of Antique Week at Zapp Hall in Warrenton, Texas. Check out T's post. I do believe number 8 is my favorite. Lots of great tips for big shows. I'll add that to my "About Warrenton" column. Love it!

I have to run to Winnie & Tulula's this morning. Have I mentioned that I am in charge of decorating the front window starting this Saturday? Indeed. I have nothing else to do, so this is perfect! Yes. I am being funny. It's a good thing I thrive on deadlines and stress. Actually, this is going to be fun. I have collected several items with a different look, just for the window. Am I peaking your interest? Head out to Athens this Saturday and you can watch us put the window together.

Oh! Be sure to go to W&T's blog. Look at the right column. All those peeps who sell at Winnie & Tulula's, will be set up at Antique Week. We are representing! Come see us!

Sorry no pictures in this post. But, I have got to get off this computer and find a Sharpee. 15 days? Eeeek!

Happy Wednesday!

Junk in Poetry

I got a little junking in this morning. Check it out...
0904 002
Everything you see will be for sale at Antiques Week in Warrenton, Texas, September 25 through October 3.

I've gotten a little goofy buying up suitcases. I hope someone likes piles and piles of them!
0904 005
This grouping is kinda cool on my driveway.
0904 011
In this next picture, the pop of blue really appeals to me. I'm not sure if I can give these up! Maybe I'll just print and frame the picture and pass on the pans. Hmmm...

Happy long weekend!

Felix the Cat(fish) in Poetry

This week, I've been working on getting ready for Warrenton. I ran out to Winnie & Tulula's to restock. I hit Primitiques and robbed merchandise to pack up for the big show at Zapp Hall. I hate to run out of goods at the show! I added a new feature "About Warrenton" to the left column on my blog. So, you ask, what did I do this morning? I walked out to my pond.
Pond 006
I live on 5 wooded acres and can just barely see the pond from my kitchen window. I wondered if the fish were missing me, as I hadn't been down to feed them in a while. After throwing a handful of feed out, the fish started jumpin'! Here's Felix the Cat (fish).
Felix the Cat-fish
And his friend, the red slider turtle, Red came out.
Felix and Red
I know. I know. You wanna see junk, don't you? Ok. So, here's the super big fan that I have down by my pond. It stands almost 5' tall. Love it! Don't you?
Pond 028
Back to shopping. cleaning, fixing, pricing, packing tomorrow. And I'll try to take some pics, too!

Happy Thursday!
