I'm baaaaack!

Staci and I
After 3 days in Antique Heaven, I have returned to the real world. The Zapp Hall Antique Show in Warrenton continues to be everything it is hyped up to be. Good stuff, good people. Staci and I called Theresa's space our home base. We checked in each day with Theresa and then headed out. She IS the Queen Mother, don't ya know? Between sales, Theresa snapped this pic of Staci and I in her booth. Can you see how glorious her space is?
Andy's Rose Garden
We meandered over to the Bar W field where we visited with Andy of Found Around Fred's World. Here, he sits in his Rose Garden. The man put together a really fun look with mattresses on end and top. There's even a ceiling fan in there! Next to Andy were Renee, the Junk Queen and Donna from Curious Goods. Let's just say, I had to go get my pickup truck after shopping with these three! Lots of great stuff to be had.
Mark's Birds
On the Bar W side, bordering Zapp, is Mark with his birds. Mark is from Arkansas and he was one interesting character to visit with. He told us that all of the birds have names. Birdella. Birdie. Birdadette. He's talented and clever! Be sure to click on the picture to "go large". The detail on these birds is something to behold.
Blog Party
Of course we paused from shopping for a few hours to play at The Blog Party hosted by Theresa of Garden Antqs Vintage. What a blast! I met new folks. Put faces to names. I'll have a post later this week of just the blog party. It will be a challenge to remember who everyone is in the pictures! Theresa knows how to put on a party. We had a wonderful time. The highlight of the weekend? I saved the best for last...
Nap Time for Witt
Baby Witt made an appearance at Zapp Hall. Yes. He even came to the Blog Party and let us all ooo and aaah over him. He slept through it all, but I'm sure he felt the love.
Witt is sporting the old man pants
Check out his old man, plaid pants. It took me a while to realize he wasn't wearing suspenders! There is a gadget on my blog for Baby Witt. If you are unfamiliar with his family and his daily miracles, go over and check it out. His short life has brought together lots of strangers with the sole purpose of praying for him.

In fact, Witt's Great Aunt Cheryl and Grandmother Karen are the driving force behind the Zapp Hall Antique Show. They are the landlords (or is that landladies?) of this wonderful place. Between seeing after their dealer/vendors and cooking in the kitchen of Royer's Cafe, and running after all their kids/grandkids/family, they are everywhere. Yup. It's about family at Zapp.

I have grown to admire these people and I decided to become a part of their extended family. ANNOUNCEMENT! This fall, mark your calender, I will be set up at the Zapp Hall Antique Show. AHH!!! Yes. I am a mess. I committed and I am more excited than a hog wallering in mud. Friday, September 25 through Saturday, October 3, Primitiques 'n Poetry will be Primitiques 'n Warrenton!

Wanna know where? Well, I'll be across from Theresa in my very own outside space. Go back up to the picture of the blog party. See the telephone pole between Susan and Theresa? That will be the far end point of my tent. I have never done such a show and for the next 6 months, I will be all consumed by it, don't ya know? I promise, I will attempt to refrain from driving you crazy with all the details. Wanna see some excitement around Zapp? Go to flickr.com and put Zapp Hall into the search box. Lots of fun!

I'll share some of my finds and the blog party in posts to come. Indeed, more pics to come!

Happy Tuesday!

Happy Warrenton Weekend!

The truck is loaded. The laundry is washed. I have my flask filled to the brim and I am ready to hit the road to Warrenton.

Many of you helped contribute to this trip by purchasing goodies from my online garage sales. To you, I say "Sa----lute!"

My camera is ready with extra batteries packed. If you are at Warrenton, particularly the Blog Party at Theresa's Sunday, be prepared for some photo ops!

In the meantime, what will you do without my not-so-daily posts? Hmmm...

Might I suggest you go to http://www.flickr.com/ and in the search blank put "Warrenton Fleamarket" or something similar. Lots of things to keep you occupied there. Don't drool on your keyboard and blame me though.

Vines and Springs
Here is one of my very own photos. Spring is springing in Poetry!

Happy Weekend!

Diamonds in the Garden?

I love the lines and patina of these heavy metal diamonds. They have hung on walls indoors and out at my place. I don't know their original purpose. Did I mention they are heavy?
As you can see, the five of them currently call this flower bed their home. Y'all kicked major booty on suggestions for the coat rack. What should I do with these? ($10 each if you want to buy them and show me!)

Happy Thursday!

Y'all Are So Smart!

I didn't get to spend a lot of time playing with this this morning. But, I walked around my place gathering different things to hang from yesterday's coat rack. If you look in the far back left, you will see a glass light fixture hanging from wire. I think that several of these will be really cute with a tea light inside. The rusty thing left of it has a jar inside and with a candle lit, it allows light to flicker through the flower cut out. The green funnel has a piece of screen in the bottom. This is good for birdseed or a plant. The far right blue glass holds a tea light. Or it can be filled with water and flowers. Cute! The cobalt piece is an oil lamp. And, per David's advice, I threw a saucer up top for a bird bath.

Debbie shows some garden pictures from Willow Nest with ideas that might work. Check that out!

Did you see April's idea about the wires to the ground? Can't you just see Morning Glory vines all over this thing?

Unless someone comes along and offers me good money (I'd take $65), this thing is staying around! Y'all ROCK! Thank you for playing!

Happy Wednesday!

Ideas?

Pink Hat Rack
I bought this coat rack a few years ago knowing that the funky pink would be a neat addition to my house. It has been a great resting spot for many of my hats. Currently, it is on my front porch, available for guests to put things on when they come inside. Rain coats, hats, umbrellas.
Pink Hat Rack
But, alas. Like many other "cool" things I have, I have grown weary of it. Any non-traditional ideas for this piece? Get your creative wheels turning and clue me in. It is probably on it's way to Primitiques. Maybe I can display it with your suggestion?!

Happy Tuesday!

Music Stand Idea

Here is a plain, ordinary music stand. What might one do with this? You could display art on the shelf. I think that is too easy...
Check this out.
I fell in love with this when I saw it. Isn't it great?

I bought the plain one (up top) since then, but haven't done a thing with it. Anyone want me to bring one or both to Warrenton? They are for sale. $10 for the plain. $35 for the Greek Family.
While I have your attention, I'd like to brag on something real quick. This past Saturday marked the 18 month anniversary of my first date with David. One and half years. Yee haw! As an incredibly stubborn, independent woman, who has never been married, I am learning like a 1st grader, daily. The journey is a pleasure and I am so very happy to be on the receiving end of this man's love. Yup. It's only the beginning!

Let Me Introduce You

This is my friend, Staci. We have been running buddies and best friends for a very long time. In the early 80's, we began a road trip tradition by going to church camps and choir tours together. In our 20's the two of us backpacked in Greece and Turkey for 5 weeks. Talk about a road trip! Now days, we usually hit the road at least once a year to shop at every garage sale we see and just have some girl time. We both like us some antiques.

Wanna see pictures?

Here, we are in London in the early 90's. Antiques in London. Sweet!
Riding a donkey on an island in Greece.
Yup. That's me in the pink.
Staci is at the wheel on a boat somewhere between Greek islands.
Staci getting us somewhere in Greece
More island hopping in Greece.
Ya gotta dance in Turkey!
Dancing in Turkey
Here, Staci married her souvenir from Turkey, Cem (pronounced Jim). They just celebrated 14 years of wedded bliss.
Staci and Cem's Wedding
Here we are this past October in Gruene with our menfolk.
Gruene Hall
Where to next? Well, next Saturday, one week from tomorrow...we are going to...
Gruene Hall
Warrenton!!! Look out peeps! Staci and I will be there! We are about silly, goofy, excited! Can't wait! See you there!

Road Trip!!!

We actually have been to Warrenton together, about 7 or 8 years ago. Back then, we only knew Richard (who we love). This trip will be on a Whole Nutha Level!

Happy Friday!

Attention Warrenton Shoppers!

Pedestal Sink or Swim
(UPDATE: The sink above has been sold. In addition to the flickr pages that I recommended that you look at, you might also check on my old garage sales on blog and flickr. If it's not sold, it can be yours!)

My trip to Warrenton was meant as a buying trip. I don't have a space or anything. However, I have committed to loading my truck with a few items to be sold to dealers at Warrenton. So, wanna jump on the bandwagon? Go to my Primitiques flickr page and even my house pictures and go shopping. Holler at me for prices. If it will fit in my truck, I will bring it with your promise to purchase at Theresa's Blog Party at 2pm, Sunday, March 29th at Zapp Hall. Or you can go ahead and pay me with paypal now. I'll park somewhere nearby and you will pick it up at my truck and do with it as you please. No delivery. No dragging. Just being near the blog party for pickup. Sound good?
Prosthetic Glass Eyes

For those of you who can't make it to the Biggest Sale in Texas, well, I've got a little something for you. How bout a circa WWII glass, prosthetic eye? Your choice, $25 each. Or buy 3 or more at $20 each. Shipping will be extra, of course. You can go here to view all of the eyes. There are about 20 for sale. Some have red veins in them. There are Blue, Brown, Hazel, Green eyes. Your choice. Or I can randomly pick some for you. Fun stuff, eh?

You can contact me at PrimitiquesNPoetry@yahoo.com with your Wish List.

Stapled Glass

Whew! Life has been happening! Well, not my junking life, but, I have been busy.
My house is about to "get it together" for the 4th Annual Roadkill Chili Cookoff, hosted by moi. Last year, I had about 70 folks and 17 chili's entered. This year promises to be another big turnout. Sooo...guess who is in decorating mode! Inside and outside the house, things are happening. This corner is just getting started. I'll keep you updated as it evolves. See the jar with the lid on top of the wooden suitcase?
If you look close enough, you'll see the staples (or rivets) in the glass. This is an old school way of repairing cracked glass. You know me...I love me some imperfection! And the repair speaks for someone who cared enough about this piece to fix it, instead of chunk it. My kind of peeps.
The roses inside will soon be ditched. I have filled this jar with old shoe shine brushes in the past. Another time, with colored glass bottles. The colored bottles might be on their way back in. I liked that look a lot. What might you put in the jar with the stapled cracks?

David's Man Room

The other day, David, aka Snakelover, jumped up on his pool table to change some light bulbs. I couldn't resist snapping some pics, cuz, after all, he is just so darned cute! And in looking at the pics, I realized that I could use this opportunity to show you the Man Room at his house.
He converted his 2 car garage into this fun room. Pool table. Beer dispenser. Neon lights. Posters and license plates.
I know. Not the best pics. But, it's what I have. Maybe you should send him a comment and ask him for better pics and a guided tour. I know he'd be proud to show it off.
Kinda cool, huh?

Happy Day!

My Dentist Office

Who would not want to sit in this room while waiting for the dentist?
The day I walked into his waiting room, I knew this dentist and I were going to get along just fine. Check out the framed hook rug. I truly want to take it home with me.
My kinda taste. He said that he and his wife pick stuff up here and there. He has never heard of Warrenton and he can't name an antique shop in the area. Betcha his wife could name a place or two! Greatness!
I'm fairly certain that the receptionist thinks I'm looney...taking pictures in the waiting room!

I made the leap...

I made the leap, indeed! I joined facebook. A year ago, you would not have caught me on blog or facebook, and now look at me! On fb, I have reconnected with people I have known for years, and lost touch with. Mostly, folks I've known 25 years plus. What a cool thing!

So, I put my blog address on my facebook page, thingy, and who knows? I may have some new blog followers now. Welcome, my old friends!

Have you joined fb yet? Any interesting stories?

David and I are heading out of town this weekend, so there will be no garage sale. I hope that isn't too disappointing!

Happy Weekend and we will be back Sunday.

Take Me Away!

2-4 weeks. In 2 to 4 weeks, my passport will be here. Yippee! Honey? Wanna go somewhere?

These pics? Too blurry.
These? The lady said this was not a "true representation" of me because I look tanned. Please. It will be true enough in July!
This one? Some white growth on my chin here...(printer error)
This one? Yeah! Yea! This will work!
I know. I won't need a passport for Warrenton. But, the point is...I could go somewhere more exotic in 2-4 weeks! he he he

Do you have any vacation plans that require the dreaded pictures?

Happy Day!

I want a Chick-fil-a world

Do you know what I'm talking about? Have you ever been to chick-fil-a and had a bad experience? I have never. Every time I go, I want to take the nice people home with me. I want to pick them up and put them into other businesses that could benefit from good manners and kindness.

No pickles? No problem.

Have a nice day. Every day.

Manners. Always.

Closed on Sundays spending time with their families. As we all should.

I absolutely love how I feel when I leave that place.

If you live where there is no such restaurant, I am so sorry. Good food and good people. An exception, it seems, these days.

Happy Day!
~Mindy

ps. This post started out as a whiney post and I decided to turn it around. Negativity is so ugly. So, I'm going with positive. Be grateful. It wasn't good reading, either! haa

The Big Spring Show is Coming!

Richard 003
Are you getting excited? Are you aware that Warrenton/Round Top is very, very soon? Did you know that a whole lotta work goes into actually buying, setting up and selling at this show?

I happened to catch Richard of Alston's in Garland last fall before he left for the show. Can you say Creative Packing?
Richard 005
I did not get to go to the show last year. But, Cher went and was kind enough to snap this picture of Richard as he rested after some major unloading/setting up.
Richard
Can you see him way back there with his knees up? He was whupped!

I am looking forward to this Spring Show. Tell me. Are you setting up there this year? Where? Are you shopping? Who do you like to shop with? Help me plan my days. And I certainly hope to see everyone at Theresa's Blog Party!

Happy Day!

Knock on Wood

Some of you might recall for Christmas, I was gifted some old wood flooring. It was determined that there was enough wood to lay in my dressing area. David thought it might be a fun project for us to do together. I hate projects. So, it soon became a David project, with me cheering him along.
The baseboards need to come up
After ripping out the carpet and scraping the floor, David realized that to do this job right, the baseboards would have to come up, too. The wood planks are fairly thick.
up with the baseboards
So, up the baseboards came.
2009FEBRUARY02 006
Somewhere around this time, I was reminding David how much I love him.
Finally!
Look! Baseboards back down. Planks flat and in place. Beautiful!
pretty wood!
Smooth ride? Ugh. It's March and he started in January. What do you think? Wood popped up in two different places. Humps were discovered in the concrete. Humidity happened. Boards were ripped up. Beer was consumed. Boards were laid again. Concrete garden pavers were used for weights.

Though I was not his helper, David did have a little helper.
With a little help from Flat Stanley
Flat Stanley chipped in when he could. And look! David still has a smile on his face! I love this man! Thank you, dear! And thanks, LucyJane, for the wood. David requests that any future gifts include labor...by someone else! *wink*

Happy Friday!
